The Night Before "The Night Before"

It was quiet…very, very quiet…loud lights, really loud and pretty damn special too with a superb stage-length LED back screen going at angles to itself, but the house was quiet.

A soundcheck was about to happen, a couple hundred members of the Metallica Club had won special Fifth Member access to the soundcheck but they were still outside and the band hadn’t played a note.

It was due to start.

Wednesday Night Note...

We hear that a Canadian Metallica tribute band is a little upset with us and with a little digging figured out why. It turns out that a certain letter was delivered to the band Sandman that neither we nor our management were aware of until it surfaced online. Lucky for us the band was kind enough to post it for us to see, and it turns out that we have a very overzealous attorney who sent this letter without our knowledge.

We have a long history of not only enjoying tribute bands, but we started as one. Heck, we even recorded a two-disc album of covers! We will always remember those days and continue to enjoy tribute bands, even inviting them to support us on various tours over the years.

Sandman should file the letter in the trash, we’ve spoken to Joe Di Taranto of the band and it’s all good. Keep doing what you’re doing... we totally support you! And in the meantime our…

We're incredibly lucky to have another winning team here in the Bay Area as the Golden State Warriors took the NBA Western Conference title and are facing the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals! By now we're guessing that you've noticed that we like to support our home sports teams, so to continue in that tradition James and Kirk will be on hand at Game 5 on Sunday, June 14th. They'll be performing the National Anthem before the game as the Warriors resume their quest for the title back at home at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA that night.

Supporting Victims Of The Central Texas Floods

We are looking forward to seeing everyone out at the X Games this Saturday, but are also reminded that many of our friends in Texas have suffered hardships during the severe weather that hit Central Texas causing extreme flooding. So we have joined forces with ESPN and Circuit of the Americas to assist the victims of the recent floods by donating all money raised from the sales of downloads of this show through to the Central Texas Red Cross. All formats of the download, including the high definition versions, are being offered at the very deeply discounted price of $5.00 each through July 15th.

If you’re going to the X Games, a portion of your ticket sales will be donated to the Central Texas Red Cross, but if you can’t be there, you can still help by pre-ordering the download at or to simply donate to the flood relief efforts visit

Off to Austin

We're excited to be teaming up with our friends at ESPN again to headline the new Super Stage at X Games in Austin, TX on June 6 at the Circuit of the Americas. Being a part of the X Games will be a first for us as the premier action sports event celebrates 20 years of presenting the world leaders in extreme sports including BMX, skateboard, MotoX, RallyCar racing and more and we can't wait to see what these amazing athletes can do!

See you in Austin as we add another show to our summer tour!

Out With The Old, In With The New!

We're excited to be heading back to Canada this Fall for what promises to be a very unique historical pair of shows as we have been invited to usher out the legendary Colisee Pepsi and welcome the brand new Centre Videotron all in a three day period! On September 14th, we'll be taking the stage for the final event held at the long time mainstay Colisee Pepsi, the classic hockey arena that made its debut in 1949. Our first appearance there was in 1989 and since then we've played seven shows in the arena, including the two shows filmed for the Quebec Magnetic DVD release. Two days later on September 16th we'll open the doors to the brand new Centre Vidéotron for the first event to ever be held there. How cool is that?!

Always one of our favorite places to visit, Quebec City also has a long history of being the home to some of the most rabid 'Tallica fans anywhere. It only seems…

Return To Lolla!

It's been nearly 20 years since we've been lucky enough to take the stage at Lollapalooza, so we are over the top that we've been asked to play this year at the now annual extravaganza held at Grant Park in Chicago. We'll be hitting the stage on Saturday, August 1st.

The three-day festival takes place this year July 31-August 2, but only single date tickets are still available. Pick yours up starting TODAY at 10:00 AM local time at

See you this summer in the Windy City!

Live Met CDs Go Down Under

Last year we celebrated ten years of by honoring your requests for the good old-fashioned compact disc and we pressed up all the shows from 2014's tours in Europe, South America and Canada. Our friends in Asia jumped on board with releases from the 2013 tour and that got us thinking that perhaps we should spread the love to another part of the world and voilà, shows from the last two tours Down Under will now be available on CD!

Starting today for the next five weeks, we'll be rolling out shows from our visits to New Zealand and Australia as part of tours in 2010 and 2013, the former during the World Magnetic tour in arenas, the latter headlining the Soundwave Festival. Each week we'll hit you with shows from a particular city or cities starting with two nights in Christchurch and two nights in Auckland recorded in 2010. By the time we reach early April there…

Celebrate Record Store Day With A Trip Back In Time

This year we decided to celebrate Record Store Day with our friends at independent retail by taking a huge leap back in time to our humble beginnings with that little rectangle of plastic known as the "demo tape." In 1982 we recorded seven songs that became our initial calling card known as No Life 'til Leather and it led us to our first record deal . . . the rest, as you some of you may know, is history! On Record Store Day, April 18th that demo tape will be available as a limited edition cassette (yes, cassette!!) at your favorite neighborhood record store and

We've been digging through the archives, gone to the original source material and re-mastered it to maximize the sound potential for 2015 without altering the original mixes in any way. Recorded with the first line-up of the band that appeared live as Metallica, No Life 'til Leather has never been…

Rock in Rio... AGAIN!

One Rock In Rio in a year is just not enough! Were very excited that we have been invited to be a part of the original Rock In Rio 30-year celebration by headlining one night during the festivities taking place September 18-27, 2015 at the City of Rock in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This will mark our eighth (!) Rock In Rio appearance including the upcoming May show in Las Vegas. It promises to be quite the party as we join a stellar festival line up including Faith No More, System of a Down, Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot and many others.

Tickets will go on sale in April, so keep watching here or the official Rock In Rio site for more info. This will be our only South American show in 2015.

A Loss in the Family

We lost a valued member of our family today as award winning filmmaker Bruce Sinofsky passed away this morning.

Bruce, along with Joe Berlinger, was the architect of our film Some Kind of Monster. Smart, funny and dedicated, Bruce was with us almost every day in the early 2000's and was an integral part of helping us to navigate the rough waters during those times. Although not very welcomed at times, he was there through some of the darkest times of Metallica. He became a dedicated comfort and visual lifeboat, while objectively observing the unraveling and rebuilding of our inner and outer selves. We admired Bruce and Joe's work in Brother's Keeper, but of course were blown away by what Bruce and Joe accomplished with the Paradise Lost trilogy of films. With their relentless work and attention to detail, Bruce and Joe's films drew attention to the miscarriages of justice…

Hit The Slopes

Its no secret that three quarters of the band enjoy our snow sports (Kirk is sticking to the water for now!) so were excited to announce that we have hooked up with Armada to create a line of Metallica skis for you to cruise around the mountains on. Founded by professional skiers and a snow-sports photographer, Armada was skiing's first rider-owned, rider-operated manufacturer and we admire that independent, do-it-yourself spirit.

Available to dealers now and at retail in September of this year, the Armada x Metallica collaboration consists of two skis, the Invictus 95Ti all mountain ski and the JJ 2.0 powder ski. There will also be a Hans windbreaker jacket and Decker Gloves, all with Metallica Master of Puppets based artwork created by Armadas graphics team with creative input from us.

Skis are available to pre-order in the Met Store now, jackets and gloves will hit…
